Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician, U.S. Army Reserve officer, and political commentator who represented Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021.

She made history as the first Hindu and Samoan-American voting member of Congress. Starting her political journey at 21 in the Hawaii House of Representatives, Gabbard also served in Iraq and Kuwait with the Hawaii Army National Guard. During her Congressional tenure, she was the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, later resigning to endorse Bernie Sanders in 2016.

Known for her appearances on Fox News, Gabbard’s presidential campaign emphasized anti-interventionism, but she faced criticism for meeting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Post her presidential run, Gabbard leaned conservative on certain issues.

Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including the John F. Kennedy New Frontier Award in 2013.
