Russell Brand is an English comedian and actor known for his flamboyant and loquacious style. He’s won several British Comedy Awards for his stand-up comedy and his contributions to the industry. Brand got his start as an MTV presenter in the UK and later became the host of Big Brother’s Big Mouth, a spin-off show. He’s also had major film roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, and voiced characters in several animated films.
In 2013, Brand became known as a public activist and campaigner after guest-editing an edition of New Statesman. He’s since spoken on many political and cultural issues, including wealth inequality, addiction, corporate capitalism, climate change, and media bias. He’s launched a political-comedy web series, released a book entitled Revolution, and worked on a documentary about financial inequality.
Brand has been the subject of media coverage and controversy for issues like his promiscuity, drug use, and political views. He’s even incorporated some of his controversial acts into his comedic material. In 2015, a biographical documentary about his life called Brand: A Second Coming was released.
