Guests: Episodes with Erika Thompson
Erika Thompson, a proud native Texan and lifelong insect enthusiast, is a professional beekeeper and the founder and owner of Texas Beeworks. With a passion for rescuing bee colonies and showcasing the true nature of bees, Erika has become the most-followed beekeeper globally.
As a child, Erika spent her time in her Houston backyard, collecting various insects and critters. Her fascination with bees led her to take a beekeeping class in 2011. Although she initially had no intention of becoming a beekeeper, she fell in love with the craft and started her first hive in central Austin. Erika founded Texas Beeworks in 2016 while working full-time as a Communications Director, eventually transitioning to full-time beekeeping.
A passionate advocate for bee and pollinator protection, Erika has been the driving force behind local, state, and national legislation. Her work has been featured on Jeopardy, CNN, BBC, Washington Post, NPR, Today Show, Joe Rogan Experience, and more.
Texas Beeworks, founded on the principle of prioritizing hives over honey, aims to raise awareness about bees and beekeepers through education, advocacy, and service. The company provides free bee removal services and refrains from selling honey out of respect for the bees’ hard work. @TexasBeeworks is the most-followed online beekeeping account worldwide, boasting over 12 million followers across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
