Guests: Episodes with David Spade
David Spade is an American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and TV host born on July 22, 1964. He shot to fame as a cast member and writer on Saturday Night Live (SNL) from 1990 to 1996, where his sarcastic style and iconic sketches gained him a loyal following. After leaving SNL, he transitioned to films, starring in comedies like “Tommy Boy,” “Black Sheep,” and “Joe Dirt.” Spade has also been part of successful sitcoms like “Just Shoot Me!” and “Rules of Engagement,” earning him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for the former. He has a distinct voice in animation, notably voicing Kuzco in Disney’s “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
His early stand-up gigs led to a role in “Police Academy 4” and ultimately to his SNL stint. While on SNL, he generated iconic sketches like “Total Bastard Airlines,” and “Hollywood Minute.” However, he did have a notable fallout with Eddie Murphy over a sketch, which took years to mend.
After SNL, he appeared in hit buddy comedies with Chris Farley but declined to attend Farley’s funeral due to emotional struggles and pre-existing tensions due to Farley’s lifestyle. His subsequent return to television included voicing characters in animations and starring roles in sitcoms. In 2003, he hosted both the Teen Choice Awards and SpikeTV’s Video Game Awards and even had a brief stint in drama with 2018’s “Warning Shot.”
Spade returned to TV hosting in 2019 with “Lights Out with David Spade” but the show was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
